With all of the fun trends this fall, you are bound to find a few new favorites to update your closet and show off your personal style.  Here are some of my favorites.Five Style Updates for Fall

Python Mania

Animal prints are always in, it’s just a matter of which one takes front and center for the moment. In the current race between leopard print and python, python is ahead by a nose.  I’m skipping all of the cheesy metaphors I’m dying to insert here and will move right on to styling. :-)

If you go all out with an all over python look, focus on varying textures and colors to keep from looking like the trend is wearing you. Not sure you are on board with the trend?  This is a great time to try it out in an accessory – perhaps a scarf, a party-ready clutch or a stellar pair of heels.

Leather Dtails

If you have not splurged on a full leather or leather-accented piece yet, now is the time. Leather details are still showing up in every color and every design imaginable so you have the most freedom in choices and are most likely to find something that suits your personal style.  Not sure you want to splurge on leather? Look for waxed, coated or faux leather fabrics to mimic the look.

STYLE TIP:  If you have an area that expands at the mere thought of a potato chip, say your hips, you may want to skip investing in leather shorts or pants.  You don’t want to gain a few pounds and immediately be sized out of your brand-new purchase!

Booties

Take a break from the sky high boot and add in a bootie or two to your shoe  collection. They are a great way to pull off the rocker chic look that’s so popular this season or find booties in a more classic neutral color to add a moderate statement to your classic pieces.

Not all booties are as flattering as this split front Gianvito Rossi pair.  Here are a few tips to help you look great in this trend.

STYLE TIPS: The most flattering booties hit low in front of the ankle or have a v-shape front slit to help keep your legline lengthened.

For booties that cut straight across the ankle, consider wearing with a complimentary or similarly hued tight/legging.

Combining high ankle booties and longer skirts is a guaranteed recipe for cutting your legline to pieces.  General rule – the taller the boot, the shorter the skirt and vice versa.

Penchant for Purple

The traditional colors for fall are updated beautifully this season.  You can find teal, burgundy, rich browns, and a gorgeous, deep purple called Acai at every price point in nearly every designer.  The deep purple shade is taking clothing and home décor by storm at the moment. Men, this tip is for you as well. Coming in the form of purple jackets, ties, and vests – this color is a must for fall.

And you are already set up for Spring with this hue.  Pantone just released its Spring Color Report and lighter purple shades like Pantone 16-3823 Violet Tulip and Pantone 18-3224 Radiant Orchid will make great compliments to the darker purple tones this season.

It’s not just in clothing, purple is the latest color for home decor!  Wall color, fabrics, and pillows make great compliments to recently popular hot pinks.  Check out my Penchant for Purple Pinterest board for some purple inspiration.

STYLE TIP:
If you have fair hair and fair skin and find the dark hue tends to overwhelm you, lighten it up with a lilac scarf or complimentary pastel shades.  And if purple isn’t your thing, go for the gorgeous teal pieces available now as well!

Curls and Waves

Compliment the soft pastels and florals from spring and summer or contrast the menswear and graphic designs of fall with soft curls and waves.  If you have the hair for it, let go of the straightening iron for a bit and dust off your curling iron from the back shelf or try out one of the new clamp-free wands to give your hair a full, touchable look.  A fun side effects of soft waves? The volume of your hair can make your face look thinner too!
