As I’m getting back into the swing of things and frankly, getting on a new swing entirely, I wanted to share what I learned in the process of styling the bump. I had the chance to share some tips on Great Day Houston but as is often the case, there is more to say! Good news, pregnancy is not required to benefit from these style tips!

Signature Style Maternity Week 7

Signature Maternity Style Tip:

Stick to your personal style. Everything else in your world is changing or is about to change but your personal style does not have to suddenly convert to “mom” jeans and frumpy tops. Looking like YOU will help weather the days when you realize your body has been taken over and isn’t really yours at the moment. You won’t always feel good but you can still look good!

Signature Style Maternity Week 11

Keep attention up with accessories and fun shirt details.

Signature Maternity Style Tip:

Borrow from friends. It is so helpful to have a few pieces you can use while you develop your own wardrobe! I had some great finds from friends who were happy to let someone else get some wear out of the pieces they only wore for a short time. These jeans were one of those pieces. My first trimester was not too bad. I definitely felt a bit nauseous but discovered frequent snacks and meals and finally acupuncture resolved all of my symptoms fairly quickly. Unfortunately, with all the frequent snacking (I would rather gain a few pounds than spend my mornings bowing to the porcelain god!), I gained quite a bit in my first trimester so I was incredibly grateful to have a pair of maternity jeans to save me!

Signature Style Maternity Week 12

A small non-contrast belt at the waist helps create shape.

Signature Maternity Style Tip:

Choose a uniform. When I found out I was pregnant, I looked back over my wardrobe, researched celebrity styles, and perused Pinterest to come up with styles that worked for me. While I mixed it up a little, tunics/ponchos with skinnies and dresses were my pregnancy go-to looks!

Signature Style Maternity Week 13

Use blazers to balance fullness and create structure.

Signature Maternity Style Tip:

Consider the Bella Band. These are all non-maternity pieces with the exception of the hugely helpful and always hidden Bella Band. I kept mine folded over most of the time vs covering my whole bump and it made it possible for me to wear my own pants through nearly my entire pregnancy. Well worth the $28! (The Target version is good too but it does not have the silicone strip so expect it to not always stay in place.)

Second and Third Trimester posts coming soon!
