Does anyone else feel like time is racing by?! Not only is my tiny intern two but she does not have a summer birthday and I’m just now getting to the posting about her party! lol.

I love, love, love a good themed party and couldn’t pass up an opportunity for fun. This spring, before the bump limited riding, Kate couldn’t get enough bike time so we went with a bike theme for her birthday party.

Pinterest was of course helpful but most of the ideas were for boy parties so I had fun throwing pink around like confetti. Whether you are planning a bike-themed party or just looking for some fun party ideas and recipes, check out the fun below!

A dear friend found this metal bike in Hobby Lobby – a can of spray paint and we were in business.

I found this fun tutorial for rainbow art pasta. So our tiny friends did wheel and handlebar pasta bracelets.

As I’m putting this post together Kate is saying “more friends? more friends?” and singing Happy Birthday. lol

Food

I love to cook and have a tendency of making too many items so I opted for fewer options this time but enjoyed pulling together licorice wheels, flat tire pizza rolls, stoplight fruit skewers, bicycle-shaped pasta salad, and s’mores trail mix.

Am I the only one that didn’t know cranberry juice is what made pink lemonade pink?! This Martha Stewart pink lemonade recipe was a hit and is now saved as a favorite in my Paprika app. I recommend cutting it with more water than the recipe calls for as it’s pretty concentrated.

And as favors for the road, make your own trail mix!

All that was left was the cake! When in doubt, Southern Living is my starting place for a great cake recipe and I was not disappointed. The cheesecake recipe I used is now my new go-to cheesecake recipe even with the amount of cream cheese and sour cream involved! The chocolate cake was good but seriously crumbly so you don’t get that recipe. ;-) Thank you Pinterest (where else?!) for the cake shape idea and thank you to some of my dear friends who helped me assemble it as people were walking in the door. lol.

Parade

What’s a bike themed party without actual bike riding involved?! Friends brought all manner of scooters, trikes, bikes, and wagons with them and we had a mini parade in our community. We had a table of goodies for guests to decorate their wheels and themselves including a zillion balloons. Our neighbors are the sweetest and had chairs set up viewing. It happened to be right before a storm so it was seriously mini because we all about died of heat stroke but it was so fun!

What to Wear

Last year’s Very Hungry Caterpillar party coincided perfectly with Eric Carle’s Gymboree collaboration but I was really struggling with what would be the perfect party dress for Kate. Cuteheads to the rescue! I was complimenting owner Esther on this sweet pom pom dress she had made when I was styling her for a segment and she mentioned making custom dresses. Problem solved! With the invite colors, best colors for the tiny intern in mind (because her mom is a stylist…), and the requirement for pom poms in mind (because POM POMS!), Esther whipped up this precious party dress for Kate. She was so easy to work with and I definitely recommend her for great quality, made-here outfits!!

My dress is from ASOS, my new favorite maternity style destination. I’ve found some of the best dresses there this pregnancy!

I love this little girl. She’s opinionated, independent (if she can reach it she kisses her own boo-boos), social, curious, LOVES music, loves to read, will talk your ear off whether or not you want to listen, eats like a truck driver, travels like a champ, and we have so much fun with her. God has already used her so much in developing my character and capacity to love and I love it. She was worth the wait. I can’t wait for her to meet her little sister and for us to have another little girl in the family!
